Study finds that acetyl-11-keto-Beta-boswellic acid (AKBA) reduced growth of pancreatic cancer and metastasis in mouse model. AKBA also inhibits NF-kappaB and induced apoptosis. AKBA is found in Frankinsense.
Just a statement about in-vitro analysis, but this does fit with the growing body of evidence that Frankincese, particularly the acetyl-11-keto-beta-boswellic acid, has anti-cancer properties. Wouldn't it be great to be able to fight cancer without killing the patient?
Boswellic acid shown to have systemic anti-inflammatory effects through topical application. This study only looked at Boswellia Serrata and it's triterpenes. The different Boswellia have different levels of AKBA, BA, and BKA.
Study questions the 5-LOX inhibition as the mechanism of action of Boswellia due to its low absorption. However, prostaglandin E production was inhibited. Both have profound antiiflammatory effects and would benefit chronic inflammatory diseases.
review article of anti-inflammatory effects of Boswellia. Boswellia inhibits 5-LOX and resultant leukotrienes. 3-actyl-11-keto-Beta-boswellic acid is the most potent inhibitor of 5-LOX. As it relates to disease states and symptoms, Boswellia reduces pain in OA and RA. Boswellia also shown to inhibit NF-kappa B: a potent nuclear transcription factor for inflammation. In prostate cancer, Boswellia inhibits prostate tumor growth.
